Cherries have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties being rich in vitamin C, magnesium, potassium and copper. In addition to vitamins and minerals, what characterizes these fruits is the high presence of carotenoids, polyphenols and anthocyanins; in particular: lutein + zeaxanthin, cyanidine , catechins and quercetin.

Cherries have a high content of polyphenols and antioxidant molecules, which help fight aging. In addition, cherries contain malic acid, a substance that helps the activity of the liver.

They are a fruit with purifying, draining and detoxifying properties.

The cherry tree (Prunus avium L.) is native to Asia Minor, then it spread in Egypt since the seventh century BC and, later, in Greece. The first testimonies of its presence in Italy date back to the second century BC.

Italy is one of the main producers of cherries in Europe, but still today  cherry trees are cultivated in Asia, as well as in America and Australia

Inm Italy we say “una tira l’altra”, because they are tasty and irresistibly beautiful. This is one of the reasons, together with the beauty of its flowers for which the cherry tree was the sacred plant of Venus, the goddess of love, so much so that its fruit was considered a lucky charm.
